A Scandinavian Easter chic project

In Finland, Sweden and Denmark, Easter traditions include decorating eggs and displaying willow sticks. It is a mix of an old tradition of blessing houses with willow branches to ward off witches.

We have a local grower of thick twisted willow branches coming from just outside Brisbane. We will be selling these sticks for $20 a bundle to be delivered this Friday or Easter Thursday. Here are some of our children's efforts to dress a bunch of the sticks for Easter.

It is also possible to attach coloured feathers and home-made decorations or school creations to shorter sticks in a vase.   These sticks will be re-hung with tea-lights after Easter so they are truly all-seasonal !
