Scarlet beauty

illustration
'Illustrationes Florae Novae Hollandiae' (1813) by Ferdinand Bauer

To members of Matthew Flinders' exploration team arriving in 1801, the banksia could not have appeared more exotic or foreign. It is easy to see how the strong colours and shapes of these wild flowers inspired May Gibbs to model her banksia men characters on their cone shaped heads. They are currently in flower and we are supplying bunches of these beautiful scarlet stems as our seasonal offer this week.

We hope you enjoy their wonderful colour and shape in your house this week.
