This weeks flowers 02/09/2011

Why lilies ? So the selection this week is based on a story I heard from a growers’ agent on Monday explaining why lilies are all around at the moment. The wet weather earlier in the year prevented planting for a while and when the ground was ready, they did a double plant and all these flowers are now in full bloom so we are receiving the benefits this week. Seasonal$20 bunches are brightly coloured Asiatic lilies, perfumed Oriental lilies are the $30 bunch and pink king protea and pink lilies are the $40 bunch so this sets the theme for this week.

In Greek poetry, the lily stood for tenderness which is a very romantic notion and its common meaning if you send lilies is “tenderness of heart”. They were also thought to be the voice of cicadas and with spring arriving this week, maybe they will make us all think of warmer days.

There are plenty of lovely flowers around that have been selected in previous weeks and if you would like to order any of these or buy some lilies this week, then please just send your requests through to info@fridayflowers.com.au
