by any other name
The name of this week's flower is celosia or "brains" but their beautiful velvet texture deserves better. Against their black wrapping they look like part of a scene from Moulin Rouge. Their colours and shape are amazing and create an impact wherever they are displayed.
Originating in Asia and Africa, Celosia leaves and flowers are a natural wildflower and can be used a vegetable however they are now cultivated in Australia as cut flowers. This week's delivery is from Australia's largest celosia grower in Bundaberg. It is important to check their water level regularly, especially in this hot weather. Removing leaves below the waterline, washing the stems to stop them becoming slimy and changing the water will all help to extend their vase life.
We have delivered red and hot pink this week and their round shape make them a perfect for tree decorating on December 1.
Happy trimming.
