November lilies are the seasonal pick this week – not only because they should be selected one Friday this month but also because they will stand up well in the warmer temperatures this week. Long stems with one or 2 large trumpet flowers at the top, they have a distinctive perfume which will fill your house as the heat warms up their scent. They can sometimes be called Christmas lilies and bred with a red stripe in the throat, but it just seems too early to be wishing ourselves there already. Early bunches of hydrangea are arriving and having tried a bunch earlier this week, I think they make a fresh garden like arrangement. A large bunch of gladioli are the $40 bunch selection this week as a vase full of their long stems is such a luscious statement.
