White Disbuds

White out this week – all white flowers arriving. White flowers are popular because they are seen to be a classic, elegant and safe choice. I love the fact that white is so clean cut and white flowers have a light about them. They symbolise purity and innocence as a message if you are sending them as a gift – or maybe surrender, like a white flag, if apologies are in order. Very multipurpose don’t you think?

White disbuds with long elegant stems and spider heads are the seasonal bunch selection this Friday. Their loose spiky petals spread out hence the descriptive name, “spiders”. They are grown like traditional chrysanthemums but instead of letting the plants produce many flowers, they are pruned to one central stem producing one large flower. 5 stems fill a vase and they look great in any space. The $30 bunch will be some classic white oriental lilies. A perennial favourite, they are from a great grower and ready to perfume your home. The final choice will be a $40 bunch of the last of this season’s blossom sticks (in white) mixed with some white oriental lilies – long stemmed and local, their simplicity and beauty make them an easy selection.
