Christmas Bush

It’s really here – Christmas time. Christmas bush has arrived – beautiful red bunches. It’s a true sign that we’re getting ready for holidays. Parties, school concerts and celebrations are upon us and Christmas bush will be ready for delivery this festive Friday.

It is the season of giving and presents are on our minds. Gifts for teachers, colleagues and hostesses are often tricky. Bauble vases, boxed and ready to hang are one simple suggestion for $15. Another thoughtful gift is a potted rosemary plants in fabric gift bag and for more ideas, just take a look at the website.

Friday Flowers is gearing up for Christmas and in the spirit of the season, helping all to decorate their homes for the festivities. For those entertaining at home, there are packages of berries and greenery selected to match your colour scheme allowing you to put them about in all combinations. With mixed bunches starting from $50, they will be a customised selection put together just for you. Alternatively, if you are short of time, flowers can also be supplied, ready to display in vases with the vase on loan for the life of the blooms. If you’re looking for inspiration, I’m happy to meet with you and make some suggestions in time for your event.

For all floral requests, just email info@fridayflowers.com.au or select one of the links below and Christmas will be delivered to your door.

Orienta Lilies

Oriental lilies are just a favourite of most flower lovers. It may be their beautiful perfume, the size of their flowers or just their simple lines but they are consistently popular. This week, a 4 stem bunch of dark pink lilies are the $20 seasonal bunch choice while they are in full bloom and beauty. The $30 bunch will be the stunning long stemmed spray roses and the $40 choice will be a large bunch of early peonies.

Plenty of pink choices in there to keep all happy. To request some floral happiness in your home this Friday, just email your requests through to info@fridayflowers.com.au or select one of the links below.

Rhododendrons

Although Daphne du Maurier gave rhododendrons a sinister overtone as they lined the drive to Manderley, they are gorgeous. I found them irresistible and have ordered them in tomorrow as the seasonal bunch. With woody stems, the flowers last well if you crush the ends to open the stems so they can drink. They are related to azaleas as you can see by the shape of their flowers. They display best in a vase with a narrow neck so hold them in a good shape. This photo was taken by Ric Frearson last week, ready for the updated website – will be sure to let you know when its live.
Waratah are lovely at the moment. With their dark reds, I thought they’d make a great selection as the $30 bunch. Lastly, the NZ orchids are proving very popular so a cymbidium stem with some vandas to mix in a vase will be the $40 bunch this week. Spoiled for choice this week, let me know what your pick is – info@fridayflowers.com.au

Nothing like a Dame

A fond favourite in Australia, these long elegant stems of gladioli are arriving from the growers. In bunches of white and pale pink this week, their many flowers opening up over a few days are beautiful to have in the home. One of the most popular cut flowers from the 50’s and 60’s, it’s a bit of a retro choice for the $20 seasonal bunch this week.

For the $30 selection, potted hydrangeas are coming in season. As a gift or for the home, they are in flower and will continue to please for weeks yet. Flowering of course in blue and some pinks available, just name your preference for delivery on Friday.

For the $40 bunch, local roses are coming on strong. With wonderful variegated colours like those below, a large bunch of 15 stems is on offer this week.

If you would like some glads, hydrangeas or roses (it is a classic retro garden selection) this Friday, send your requests through to info@fridayflowers.com.au.

Kangaroo Paw

With the warm weather coming on, a more hardy selection this week is needed to make sure we can enjoy our flowers for as long as possible. Long elegant stems of kangaroo paw are the seasonal bunch choice this week. Not an elegant name but the velvety heads on these flowers are beautiful, sculptural and quite modern. I have mine in a turquoise vase from the fifties – a hand me down from the grandparents – and with the yellow flowers, they look very cheery in my kitchen. With this heat and no rain, be sure to keep an eye on your water levels in the vase as flowers are drinking plenty.

The $30 bunch is another lover of the heat, a stem of cymbidium orchids. They can be in a vase on their own or some flower lovers have told me they are cutting the flowers off the stem and scattering them in small vases about the house to really enjoy them in every room. However you like to display them, they are just lovely at the moment.

Local ranunculus are still beautiful and so a super double bunch is the $40 selection for this week. Colours range from white through to dark red. With their ruffled petals and full flower heads, they are the “pretty” flower choice for this week and we should take the chance to enjoy them while we can.

If you would like some flowers to enjoy at home or have the pleasure of sending to a friend, just email your requests through to info@fridayflowers.com.au or click on one of the links below and we’ll be sure to have a bunch sent out for you this Friday.

Beautiful Stock

As the weather warms up, flowers like stock are in their last weeks so we are taking the chance to enjoy them this Friday. They are locally grown and have a fabulous perfume. They are very pretty and most requests that come in for this flower is because it reminds them of an old fashioned garden. Its formal name is Matthiola – after an Italian physician and botanist. They are a long lasting flower but as they have succulent stems, you need to be careful to change the water frequently. With a beautiful clove like perfume, they are lovely in your home or sent as a gift.

(Note: a seasonal bunch is 5 stems and may be any one of the colours in the photo above)
The $30 bunch is actually a stem this week. A gorgeous long stem of cymbidium flowers – in 3 colours, pink, white or pale green, they are an elegant and beautiful selection.

A large double bunch of lisianthus is the $40 bunch selection. They continue to be beautiful and with a mixture of flowers and buds, they continue to open over many days.

White Disbuds

White out this week – all white flowers arriving. White flowers are popular because they are seen to be a classic, elegant and safe choice. I love the fact that white is so clean cut and white flowers have a light about them. They symbolise purity and innocence as a message if you are sending them as a gift – or maybe surrender, like a white flag, if apologies are in order. Very multipurpose don’t you think?

White disbuds with long elegant stems and spider heads are the seasonal bunch selection this Friday. Their loose spiky petals spread out hence the descriptive name, “spiders”. They are grown like traditional chrysanthemums but instead of letting the plants produce many flowers, they are pruned to one central stem producing one large flower. 5 stems fill a vase and they look great in any space. The $30 bunch will be some classic white oriental lilies. A perennial favourite, they are from a great grower and ready to perfume your home. The final choice will be a $40 bunch of the last of this season’s blossom sticks (in white) mixed with some white oriental lilies – long stemmed and local, their simplicity and beauty make them an easy selection.

For some white classic (and multipurpose) flowers this week, just email any requests through to info@fridayflowers.com.au
